Kigali Crafts is searching for new volunteers and interns. Positions are flexible and can be full time or part time depending upon the candidate’s circumstances.. Applicants do not need to have an interest in international development, as we are more interested in fulfilling the job description of the specific internships and voluntary positions. However, an understanding and awareness of related issues is a benefit.
Kigali Crafts’ Internship Opportunities
Kigali Crafts is searching for two full/part time interns to work for twelve weeks. The internship will commence on the 1st December 2012, with training the week before. Both internships are based in our York offices and are unpaid. Interns may have the opportunity to go to Rwanda at the end of their internship. Flights may be funded by Kigali Crafts, although this will depend on finances. There are two internship positions available:
1. Marketing, Business Planning, Networking and Market Research
2. Events, Fundraising and Sponsorship
Both interns will be required to work 7 hours daily, Monday-Friday, and may potentially be required for events during weekends as well. Kigali Crafts is currently re-organising the way it is run and creating long term plans, we therefore need two committed individuals who are quick learners and incredibly enthusiastic. Applicants do not need to have an interest in international development, as we are more interested in fulfilling the job description of the specific internships, however an understanding and awareness of related issues is a benefit.
Marketing, Business Planning, Networking and Market Research Internship
Essential Criteria:
1. Have a BA in a related business/ marketing course or relevant work experience.
2. Marketing or business related work experience
3. Be able to work independently
4. Strong leadership skills with willingness to co-ordinate volunteers
5. Able to network with a range of people, including building up decent business contacts
6. Be able to meet weekly targets
7. Speak and write fluent English
8. Creative, articulate and focused
Desired Criteria:
1. Fluent in French
2. MA in relevant subject
3. Interest in pursuing a career in international development
4. Have experience in running accounts
5. Worked in a start-up business or SME
6. Travelled within East Africa
7. Work experience within charities based in East Africa
8. Connections with local businesses
9. Ability to use html
Responsibilities and role Specification:
- Responsible for publishing all marketing material and distribution (needs to report to accounting volunteer to determine budget)
- Responsible for reviewing business plan and ensuring that budgeting is kept up to date and realistic
- Responsible for building up business contacts for training volunteers and sponsorship
- Responsible for the market research outlined in this business plan and ensuring it is represented in long term goals
- Responsible for stock checks
- In charge of the accounts, wholesale, marketing and social media volunteers in terms of ensuring they are interlinked and cooperating, they are fulfilling their aims and can come to the intern for guidance.
- Can distribute and use volunteers for projects
- Keep website up to date
- Checking kigalicrafts email daily and forwarding relevant emails to manager
Events, Fundraising and Sponsorship Internship
Essential Criteria:
1. Have experience in organising medium sized events
2. Eager and motivated to fundraise for a growing business
3. Be able to work independently
4. Strong leadership skills with willingness to co-ordinate volunteers
5. Able to network with a range of people, including building up decent business contacts
6. Be able to meet weekly targets
7. Speak and write fluent English
8. Creative, articulate and focused
Desired Criteria:
1. Fluent in French
2. Experience organising charity events under a budget
3. Interest in pursuing a career in international development
4. Confident in public speaking and presenting
5. Worked in a start-up business or SME
6. Travelled within East Africa
7. Work experience within charities based in East Africa
8. Connections with local businesses
Responsibilities and role Specification:
- Responsible for all fundraising events and organization of these events, selling tickets and running day to day operations
- Approaching potential sponsors and business contacts to organize donations and long term sponsors
- Create new fundraising ideas and challenges
- Run school and university educational talks and craft stalls to match up with annual plan
- In charge of social media and marketing volunteers who will market all events and progressions
- Delegate jobs to volunteers to aid with events
- Work with accounting intern to determine budget for advents
- Checking kigalicrafts email daily and forwarding relevant emails to manager
Blogging and Educational Links volunteer
Kigali Crafts currently has a vacancy for a blogging and educational links volunteer. The person appointed will be blogging on a weekly basis about issues relating to fair trade and international development. They will also be responsible for stalls, lessons and assemblies for our school links. The person appointed will have training opportunities in blogging, SEO and presentation skills. A minimum committment of 8 hours a week for 12 weeks is required for this role.
Criteria
1. Excellent spoken and written communication.
2. Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
3. Basic skills in wordpress and social media.
4. Able to network with a range of people, including building up decent educational contacts
5. Be able to meet weekly targets.
6. Creative, articulate and focused
Wholesale Volunteer
Kigali Crafts currently has a vacancy for a wholesale volunteer. The person will be responsible for visiting wholesale customers and will work closely with our marketing team to sell and promote our products. A minimum committment of 8 hours a week for 12 weeks is required for this role.

2. Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
3. Good sales manner.
4. Able to network with a range of people, including building up decent wholesale contacts.
5. Be able to meet weekly targets.
6. Creative, articulate and focused.
